Well my friends, the marathon is finally complete. Thank you for letting me harass your inbox’s for the last few months. Was a fab success with money still coming in … Many businesses and the women’s union in Vientiane also decided to support at the last moment, so we now have over $US4000 which is far above and beyond what I originally was aiming for. I’ll keep you updated on stories of schools and individuals that the money will directly help. Lots of photos and stories to be found on www.luangnamthamarathon.wordpress.com . I’m also pumped because I have now ticked off another one of life’s little ”must do’s” … and finished the whole thing alive and running!! We had over 400 people but most ran the halfa or 10km. The fact that I was the only female running the marathon and therefore the first female over the line is only a minor detail don’t you think?! My conscience wouldn’t have been clear if I hadn’t come clean with that.
My mum has been over visiting for a couple of week which has been lovely. The first week she was here, there was STILL no water, however combined with no electricity as well! She coped like a trooper though and was very good at filling up my well every morning … cheers Mum. We are now in Luang Prabang which is a very beautiful and cosy little town full of old French architecture and latte’s … a far sight from my little town, but very nice to soak in for a couple of days. Decadence indeed

I heard recently a beautiful story about a Laos student from the TTS. He is from one of the minority villages and so struggles to communicate in Laos with other students. Every morning he gets up early to check his trap which is about a 10km roundtrip for him. 3 months ago, however, he heard about the marathon and since then has been running 27km every day in training for it. I hope he wins! That is true dedication and passion.
