It came to me yesterday how many things in my life now seen completely “normal” but six months ago were a continual blend of surprising, bizarre and beautifully unexpected!
Taking a morning run amongst dozens of chanting monks. 2 Showering from a bowl of water.
Buying a kilo of mangoes for $1.00.
Going to at least 3 weddings a week.
Drinking whiskey nearly every day without fail!
Riding motorbikes!
Eating with my hands.
Squatting on toilets!
Drinking beer with ice.
Eating chilli 3 times a day
Not looking in a mirror!
Realising that 10.00 could mean 9.00, 10.00 or even 12.00 and most importantly, NOT being frustrated anymore!
Being able to take a day off because I am “hung over”!
Wearing thongs to work every day.
$2.00 massages
Making fireworks in the backyard.
Waking up to the scent of sticky rice.
… and the list could go on. Not sure I want to ever give some of those things up! Life is good! Marathon is looming and tomorrow is my last long training run … it’s been fun, but I must say I am looking forward to mixing up the exercise routine a little. Next on the agenda … I am getting a cut out wooden canoe made to navigate the riverways. Perhaps a regatta in the future … ??!!
A delightful read I discovered in the library. And … you wonder why I am raising money for more books??!! Who donates these gems anyway??!!

Only a few weeks now until the marathon! Things are heating up, word is on the street and people are actually wearing shorts and training!!! Most people are training in thongs, but nonetheless running! I of course twisted my ankle about a week ago, but am back on it as of this week, so am hoping the fitness didn’t drop too badly! It is exciting times around town! Remember to check out www.luangnamthamarathon.wordpress.com if you want to support. Some photos of the marathon route below … and if you feel inspired, book a flight and get on over here!
